Santa takes to his tandem to save Outfit Moray

One of Moray’s leading social enterprises is in danger of closing down within days unless significant financial pressures are addressed – and Santa is stepping in to help.

Four staff from the Lossiemouth-based charity will be taking a tandem bicycle for a sprint around the newly launched North East 250 on Sunday 10th December, riding the route continuously in shifts of two, with the aim of raising £4,000.

‘Santa’s Tandemistas’, as they are being called, will be travelling along the route which takes in Speyside, the Cairngorms, Royal Deeside, Aberdeen, the East Coast and the Moray Coast. The team of four staff members, which includes Stewart Evans, Wayne Reid, Chris McCann and David Brackpool, will don their Santa suits before leaving Spey Bay at 7am on Sunday morning and cycling non-stop at a predicted rate of 12mph, before finishing back at Spey Bay between 24 and 36 hours later.

The award-winning Outfit Moray provides carefully tailored programs of outdoor learning and adventure activities for schools, youth organisations, families and communities. Passionate about the work the charity does, its staff will be tackling the route’s steep hill climbs and winter weather in a bid to raise funds.

Tony Brown, CEO of Outfit Moray, said: “We are facing a ‘perfect storm’ of reduced funding and rising costs, and the timing of this issue could not be worse as we head into the winter season when there is a seasonal downturn in take-up of the charity’s services.

“I’m delighted that our team is taking on this incredible challenge in a bid to raise funds. All donations are greatly appreciated and I wish Stewart, Wayne, Chris and David the best of luck!”

Guy Macpherson-Grant, founder of the North East 250, said: “It’ll be great to see the Outfit Moray team taking on the North East 250 for such a great cause. As the first charity team to take on the route, I hope they get the support they need to continue their great services.

“Look out for ‘Santa’s Tandemistas’ along the North East 250 over Sunday and Monday and give them an encouraging cheer and drop them a few pounds if you can! Good luck!”
